Fans have decided that the only thing more criminal than OJ Simpson is John Travolta’s physical transformation for the TV biopic.

John Travolta stepped into the defence attorney's shoes.

American Crime Story: The People v. OJ Simpson is the new show sweeping the world by storm.

The series re-tells the real-life story of the capture and conviction of former American football star OJ Simpson as he is trialed for the murders of his wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ronald Goldman.

Fans were missing the Grease actor’s former smouldering looks and were left puzzled by his curious new appearance.

John, 62, may have been a Seventies heartthrob, but his face seems to be stopping hearts for all the wrong reasons.

For his new role as litigator Robert Shapiro, the actor sports two very bushy arched brows, a deep chestnut tan, a shiny tight forehead and what looks to be a hair weave, all topped off with a range of comical expressions.

Fans had no qualms sharing their views on John’s bold new look.

“Travolta looks like a waxwork of himself that someone left near the radiator #ThePeopleVsOJSimpson,” one person tweeted.

Another posted: “#ThePeopleVsOJSimpson is that John Travolta or just a terrifying botox lookalikey. .. John, oh John. What happened man!”

One comment stated, “Is it me or does John Travolta look a teeny bit odd?”

While another saw the funny side, “John Travolta’s wig and brows deserve a spin-off series of their own.”

One fan pondered: “Can’t believe the state of John Travolta in #ThePeopleVsOJSimpson used to be such a handsome man.”

Despite his unique look, John is loved by his castmates.

Cuba Gooding Jr., who plays the title character O.J Simpson, told People that the Grease actor was his favourite co-star of all time.

“Besides singing with him to entertain the gallery of the courtroom, I just enjoyed hearing stories of his life from [sitcom] Welcome Back, Kotter to travelling with Michael Jackson,” he explained.

Meanwhile, Khloe Kardashian has no desire to watch her dad on the silver screen.

“I have it on DVD. I just haven’t seen it yet,” Khloe explained on this week’s episode of Kocktails with Khloe.

“I’ve seen all of the documentaries or the rehashing of the footage of the O.J. trial and all this stuff, and just seeing like my dad and everything again, I relive emotions. Like, ‘Oh my god, I forgot the sound of my dad’s voice.'”

“In the 10 episodes, there are over 400 scenes, and of them, only four or five involve the Kardashian children,” executive producer Ryan Murphy explained during a panel for the show last month.

She continued, “I understand why it came back. I just feel bad and I think I’m a little more sensitive to it, cause he was my Uncle O.J., like that’s always what I called him. So just hearing things, or I might remember things differently.”

“I definitely want to watch it,” she noted. “I was also just afraid of how they would portray my dad. I hear David Schwimmer did a phenomenal job, and they play him really true to form, so I’m grateful for that.”

American Crime Story is set to hit Australian TV screens on Channel 10 later this year
