Fred Sirieix is arguably the most famous french Maître d’hôtel in all of modern pop culture, that is because of his role on Channel 4’s First Dates, the first of the successful First Dates series which is now an international success.

It’s Fred’s job to help ease the nerves of singles in preparation for the blind date of a lifetime, which he does with admirable zeal.

The Maître d’ is about to release an autobiography book, titled ‘Secret Service’, which shares all the gem’s Fred’s learnt along his time in the Service industry.

He appeared on This Morning to share some tips about dining out, including the best way to complain at a restaurant.

“People voice their opinion and say what they think,” says Fred after a host comments on how difficult people can find it to complain.

“More and more people will complain to your face. They also write letters, and they say it on social media.”

And it turns out there is a ‘best’ way to complain:

“Be honest, talk about what your gripe is and exactly what it is that you’re after. How is it that the restaurant or the businesses you’re complaining about failed?”

Fred is not afraid to complain himself when needed.

“It’s not a complaint to point out the food or the service or the experience that you want. It becomes a complaint when somebody is not reacting to you in the right way,” he contines.

He also reveals one of his favourite customer services tips.

“You should always see, smile, say hello to people before they see, smile, say hello to you,” he explains.
