The below image of five-year-old Zoey Daggett laying in her parent's arms at their family home in the US has quickly become viral. The picture, captured by a nurse, shows dying Zoey's last moments after a two-year-long battle with a rare brain tumour.
"We've had two years to prepare for this but it's never — it's never enough," Zoey's Mother told local publication the Democrat and Chronicle.
Zooey's last moments occurred half-way through one of her favourite movies, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.
The five-year-old had been diagnosed with a diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma (DIPG) tumour, an extremely rare form of brain cancer that mostly affects children aged 4 to 10.
Her parents are hoping Zoey's story will be shared with the world.
In a Facebook post on the Zoey's Fight DIPG Facebook page, the little girl's parent's shared their wish for their daughter's memory.
"Zoey is going to be shared with the world. Her love and light have been abundant and we will continue to pay it forward and share love and light with the world."
In another post, the family shared the news that Zoey's battle with DIPG had come to an end.
"At 4:17pm on July 4th 2018 the firecracker of a daughter that we named Zoey Catherine Daggett was finally allowed peace and left her beautiful body. She came into this world on 10/17 at 9:17pm with a flurry of commotion and she left just as quickly; just one day shy of 2 years since her first symptoms of DIPG appeared."
"Zoey was full of life, spunk and happiness and we know that she was loved by so many. We ask for your thoughts during this time of sadness."
A GoFundMe page has been set up to help the family pay off medical and funeral bills.
Our thoughts are with Zoey's family in this tragic time and the memory of "a sweet little girl" who changed the lives of hundreds of people around the world.
