At first it seemed like good news, but the truth was anything but.

When 22 year-old performing arts student, Demi Wright felt pains in her side she was admitted to hospital for testing, reports People.

Doctors discovered a hormone in her body, HCG, consistent with pregnancy so Demi was taken to the maternity ward for further examination and an ultrasound.

The ultrasound revealed a 4.5 inch tumour on her liver, and doctors found that it had spread throughout the young woman’s entire body and she was given a terminal prognosis.

“It was strange because she had been using the contraceptive pill and there were no other signs of her being pregnant,” her father Chris told the U.K.Metro. “I went to an ultrasound with her and they were looking to see what was happening.”

Demi had a benign tumour on her liver as a child and had continued to have monitoring throughout her life her father also revealed, but nothing could prepare him for this terrible news.

“I absolutely broke down and she patted the bed and told me to sit by her and she gave me a big hug and said, ‘It’s going to be okay,’” he told Metro UK. “She was a real trooper.”

Demi was transferred to Addenbrook’s Hospital in Cambridge where she passed away just three weeks later leaving her friends and family deeply in shock.

“We feel robbed,” Wright’s boyfriend, Mitch Gregory, told theGazette/Standard. “It needs to be stressed how much courage she had. She’s our inspiration now.”

The family are now raising money for cancer research via Just Giving.
