Earlier this year, people across the nation, including a very teary Richard Wilkins, were completely heartbroken to learn that Aussie icon Olivia Newton John was preparing to face off with cancer for the second time in her life.

However, what’s perhaps even more surprising is the Grease star’s decision to use natural therapies to fight against the shock diagnosis. Or what her daughter Chloe Lattanzi would call “traditional” therapies.

The Aussie-native was first diagnosed with breast cancer some 25 years ago.

According to The Sunday Telegraph, Olivia has undergone photon radiation therapy to treat the metastatic tumour found at the base of her spine, but is also using cannabis oil to treat her pain.

“I use medicinal cannabis, which is really important for pain and healing,” she says. “It’s a plant that has been maligned for so long, and has so many abilities to heal.”

Not only that, but she plans to utilise her position in the public eye to urge the Australian government to make cannabis oil more accessible to those suffering from chronic pain in this country.

“I will do what I can to encourage it. It’s an important part of treatment, and it should be available,” she says.

“I use it for the pain and it’s also a medicinal thing to do – the research shows it’s really helpful.”

This comes just one Olivia’s daughter, Chloe, revealed that her mother would be trying alternative courses of medicine – including cannabis oil to try and treat her.

Chloe, 31, appeared on The Morning Show yesterday to discuss her mum’s prognosis, revealing that she is doing “wonderful”.

The model and actress stressed that her mother’s positive attitude was working wonders, along with the different types of medicine she was trying.

Chloe, Olivia’s only child, owns a legal marijuana farm in Oregon with her fiancé, and discussed how effective the cannabis oil had been.

She said: “She’s using it, it inhibits cancer cell growth. It’s an amazing plant and I’m much more for natural medicine than I am for traditional western (medicine).

“I think a combination of both is good. My mum and I more lean towards the natural remedies.”
