Ah the 1970s. A time of big hair, bigger flares and that undeniable sense of freedom – illustrated perfectly by the iconic fashions of the time.

While there were plenty of trendy famous faces at the time who graced magazine covers, crooned over the soundwaves and poured their heart out before the camera, there was one particular person we cannot get past – even all these years later.

And if you don’t already know, you need to – Princess Caroline AKA the daughter of famed Hollywood actress-turned-royal Grace Kelly is the epitome of 1970s chic.

Born Caroline Louise Marguerite Grimaldi in 1957, the eldest child of the Prince of Monaco and Grace Kelly was definitely blessed with genes that would serve her well in the looks department.

That much became clear as the 1970s arrived. The stunning brunette came into her own, and quickly became a globally recognised fashion icon.

She had her first marriage to Philippe Junot, a Parisian banker 17 years her senior in 1978. The pair made a handsome couple (and yes, this was the wedding featuring that iconic flower-adorned veil).

The marriage lasted little more than two years, and in 1983 Caroline married Stefano Casiraghi, to whom she had three children.

Tragically, Stefano was killed in a speed-boating accident in 1990, when he was just 30 years old.

In 1999, Caroline married her third husband, Prince Ernst August of Hanover. Together, they had a daughter, princess Alexandra, born 1999.

While her personal life hasn’t been short of many twists and turns, the Princess has also kept herself busy with philanthropic work.

She’s also tried her hand at writing, even penning an essay that laid bare her love for her homeland.

“I feel in my bones that I belong in Monaco,” she famously wrote.

And with that in mind, there’s no denying this Monacan Princess has led quite the colourful life – and her flawless sense of style sets the foundation.
