Australian designers Heidi Middleton and Sarah-Jane Clarke have quit their famous brand, which they started in 1999.

In a statement, Myer said “Heidi and Sarah-Jane’s departure from sass & bide has been in planning for some time as they have been transitioning out of the business. Myer wishes Heidi and Sarah-Jane well, they go with our great good wishes, and we expect they will be associated with sass & bide for a long time.”

The department store purchased 65 per cent of the label for $42.5 million in 2011, and took on full ownership last September.

The pair started by selling customised jeans at London’s Portobello Road market. Within a few short years the talented duo managed to show at Australian Fashion Week and at London and New York fashion weeks.

The brand recently appointed a new design director, Anthony Cuthbertson.
