Whilst Duchess Catherine and Duchess Meghan tend to hog the spotlight with their fashion choices, Queen Letizia is one underrated style icon.

The Spanish royal, 47, attended the New Year Military parade 2020 celebration at the Royal Palace in Madrid and whilst her husband King Felipe VI was decked out in full military regalia, we couldn’t keep our eyes off the Queen.

Dressed in a floor length blue wrap dress pinned with a delicate silver jewel, the Queen of Spain looked utterly radiant as she joined members of the armed forces and royal military guard for the traditional celebration of the Pascua Militar.

The royal mother-of-two accessorised her look with a pair of simple black stilettos and her hair pulled back in a loose bun.

But despite it being the middle of European winter, Letizia’s coat dress featured a thigh-high split showing off her toned legs. If you’ve got it, flaunt it!

It may not seem like royal protocol to wear something so daring, but both Duchess Catherine and Duchess Meghan who must adhere to strict dress protocol have worn thigh-baring ensembles.

While you’re not likely to see the women of the firm in plunging necklines and mini skirts, there have been moments when a little more skin has been on show, whether that’s on purpose or due to an unfortunate gust of wind!

Back in 2016, the Duchess of Cambridge attended the UK Premiere of A Street Cat Named Bob in aid of her charity Action On Addiction in a Self Portrait dress worth £320 ($AU612).

The white frock not only featured a patterned long-sleeved top, but showed off Kate’s perfect pins.

While Duchess Meghan hasn’t been an official member of the royal family for as long as Kate, she too has showed off her daring style since marrying Prince Harry.

On her royal tour of Australia shortly after her pregnancy was announced, the Duchess of Sussex stepped out in Fraser Island in a sheer Reformation striped flowing dress, with a noticeable split up the side.

Fans were quick to compare the look to one reminiscent of Princess Diana before she wed Prince Charles. The 19-year-old Princess to-be, who was working in childcare at the time, made global news when she was snapped in a Laura Ashley skirt which became transparent in the sun.

King Felipe and Queen Letizia are back at work following the Christmas and New Year break, where they celebrated at their home, the Zarzuela Palace.

Spanish Christmas differs to Aussie festivities as the royals attend church and host a dinner on Christmas Eve after the King’s traditional speech before more celebrations on Christmas Day.

Epiphany, held on January 6, marks the day when the Three Wise Men visited baby Jesus and is considered just as important as Christmas Eve and Day.

For their Christmas card this year, Felipe and Letizia shared a gorgeous photo of their family featuring their two daughters, Princess Leonor, 14, and Infanta Sofia, 12.

The picture was taken during a trip to Asiegu in October 2019 and beneath the message “Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year 2020”, all four left their signatures.
