Hijabs on catwalk making New York Fashion Week history

For the first time, a NYFW show has included hijabs in every outfit - and the world is singing the praises of designer Anniesa Hasibuan.

Anniesa Hasibuan is getting global attention for her collection – and not just because it’s stunning, and it is, but because it features hijabs on the New York Fashion Week runway for the first time.

Inspired by her hometown of Jakarta, Hasibuan’s show, her first in a fashion week, received a standing ovation at the end. Her beautiful collection featured hijabs with every outfit from suits and tunics to kimonos and gowns, in stand-out colours and adorned with sequins and pearls.

Hasibuan told the Jakarta Post: “I want to bring the Indonesian name to the fashion world, and use my clothes to introduce people to the different and diverse parts of Indonesia”.

Her brand is just one year old, but big things are already being expected for the ground-breaking designer.

Hasibuan wrote in a statement to CNN: “I am so proud and thankful for everyone on the team who helped me so this event could happen, and I am thankful to international and local media from Indonesia for exposing my show. I did not realise the result can be this amazing, and I am thrilled and humbled by the welcome reaction given.”
