What is Avatar about?

It’s been 14 years since Avatar first graced our screens, so we won’t blame you if you’ve slightly forgotten about the show’s premise.

In short: Avatar is set in the future – 2154 to be exact, where the Earth’s natural resources have been depleted. We explore the lush alien world, Pandora, that is inhabited by the Na’vi who are blue-skinned, 10-foot-tall, sapient humanoids.

At Pandora where the atmosphere is poisonous to humans, through ‘Avatars’ (Na’vi-human hybrid) humans can explore the alien world in a relatively safe way.

A paralysed former marine (Jake Sully, played by Sam Worthington) becomes mobile again through his Avatar, falls in love with a Na’vi woman (Ney’tiri, Zoe Saldaña) and together they fight for the survival of the Pandorian world.
