The truth about House Rules’ Troy and Bec!

Is it really over between the couple?

Following their tearful split last week, it now seems Sydney couple Troy and Bec are back together – with the pair declaring they’re going to “take each day as it comes”.

Chatting to TV WEEK before House Rules aired, Bec enthused about her relationship with Troy.

“In five years’ time, I see myself happily together with Troy and the kids − married, hopefully,” the 39-year-old account manager revealed.

“If we were to win, it would mean we could go on that holiday once or twice a year that we often talk about.”

But in what could have been the straw that broke the camel’s back, it seems partner Troy has different ideas.

“I’ve stopped thinking that far ahead,” the 46-year-old painter says. “I would be happy to have my mortgage paid off and sitting back looking after the grandkids.”

Can Troy and Bec hold it together throughout the competition?

It’s not just the couple’s differing plans for the future that have made the renovating experience tough for Bec.

The mother-of-two has felt hugely stressed on House Rules and reveals she had to make several major sacrifices to join the show.

“Unfortunately, I did have to resign from my job to enter this competition,” she admits. “And I will be leaving behind my two beautiful children and family and friends.”

While the couple’s problems may come as a surprise, judge Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen understands. He says renovating for most people is “very stressful”.

House Rules judge Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen understands that renovating can put relationships under pressure.

“It can open up issues,” Laurence, 52, says. “If there’s an underlying fracture in a relationship, it’s something that can come to the surface.”

But he adds that it can also bring people together. When contestants throw themselves into their transformations with “every last little atom”, they get a great sense of fulfilment.

“It’s empowering to be able to stand back and go, ‘Oh, my God − we did that together. We might have fallen out for an hour or so, but we used the strength of our relationship to create something from scratch,’” Laurence says.
