The Handmaid’s Tale has officially scored itself an air date for its much-anticipated second season and SBS yesterday confirmed that it’s going to be fast-tracked to Australia. Yep, the show will be airing the first of 13 episodes in April 2018.

The countdown begins!

Based on Margaret Atwood’s dystopian novel, The Handmaid’s Tale follows the totalitarian society of Gilead. The show, which stars Elisabeth Moss and Alexis Bledel, cleaned up at this year’s Primetime Emmy Awards, winning outstanding drama series.

It also won seven other awards, including outstanding lead actress in a drama series (Elisabeth Moss), outstanding writing for a drama series (Bruce Miller), outstanding supporting actress in a drama series (Ann Dowd), and outstanding directing for a drama series (Reed Morano) – so if you haven’t watched it yet, put it on your to-do list right now.

Hulu teased the new season, saying: “The Emmy-winning drama series returns with a second season shaped by Offred’s pregnancy and her ongoing fight to free her future child from the dystopian horrors of Gilead.

“‘Gilead is within you’ is a favourite saying of Aunt Lydia. In season two, Offred and all our characters will fight against – or succumb to – this dark truth.”

Great, looks like all the ceremony scenes and punishments are going to get worse.

Elisabeth, who plays Offred, previously said that the first episode of season two will bring a massive bombshell.

“It’s insane! I can say this: There is literally no way that anyone can guess what happens,” Elisabeth told Entertainment Weekly.

“You can try, but you won’t do it. It’s incredible. We’re really looking to blow people away, and we have every intention to break [the story] open and go even further in all directions. We have no intention of doing anything else than being even more balls to the wall than we were in season 1.”

Alexis Bledel, Samira Wiley and Amanda Brugel will be reprising their roles.

We cannot wait!
