The Good Doctor wrapped up in the States just last week and the internet is already abuzz with rumours of what season two will entail.

It is confirmed that four recurring characters, Alex Park (Will Yun Lee), Morgan Reznick (Fiona Gubelman), Dr Audrey Lim (Christina Chang) and Lea (Paige Spara) are upgraded to series regulars, but it’s not all good news.

Deadline reports that Chuku Modu, who plays Dr Jared Kalu, will not return for the second instalment of the hit TV show.

It follows the season one cliffhanger which left the doctor with an important choice to make. In the penultimate episode, Dr Jared is offered a position in Denver, leaving his future at St. Bonaventure uncertain.

It’s an unexpected decision given comments made by executive producer David Shore following the finale in America.

He tells EW that he wants to explore Dr Jared’s storyline into the second season.

“I want to learn more about all of them and put all of them in different situations and have Dr. Shaun Murphy learn from them and teach them,” he says.

“We don’t have it all worked out yet,” David adds in an interview with TVLine. “But [whether Jared will leave is a] reasonable question for the audience to have.”

The explosive season finale, which has one more big surprise to come, is yet to air in Australia. It will return to Channel Seven after the Commonwealth Games.

The Good Doctor has been renewed for a second season predicted to air later this year with a total of 18 episodes.
