The Block’s Hannah defends ‘villains’ Ronnie and Georgia

“We’d be lost without them.”

With their fierce gameplay and competitive attitude, contestants Ronnie and Georgia have antagonised, well, almost everyone on The Block.

But fellow Blockhead Hannah has spoken out in defence of the controversial couple, telling TV WEEK that the Perth team aren’t the villains that viewers think they are.

“The beauty of television is that they will show you what they want you to see,” she points out. “Yes, there are certain elements to Ronnie and Georgia that show how competitive they are but we really enjoy their company. We had no dramas with them.”

In fact, Hannah says that she and husband Clint, who are both “reno rookies”, would be lost without the guidance of the more experienced Ronnie and Georgia.

“We’re so fortunate to have them as neighbours on The Block. Ronnie’s really happy to come over and help out and say ‘Why don’t you use this paintbrush?’ and ‘Why don’t you trying rolling this way with the roller?’ The tips they share with us are invaluable.”

However, Hannah does admit that Ronnie and Georgia’s relationship with Josh and Elyse isn’t quite so cosy.

She puts it down to episode one, which saw challenge winners Ronnie and Georgia electing to take $8500 from Josh and Elyse’s budget.

“I guess it’s no surprise that they haven’t seen eye to eye and I guess that stems from the whole money debacle,” Hannah says. “But at the end of the day Ronnie and Georgia needed to pick a team and I guess they saw Josh and Elyse as their biggest threat.

“They knew how talented they are. It was a strategic move more than anything, it wasn’t a personal move. But I can see how Ronnie and Georgia rub people the wrong way.”

With tensions rising as The Block competition heats up, Hannah says it’s normal for teams to butt heads on-site. “We get along well with everyone. But I know not everyone else does and that’s okay.

“There’s so many different personality types, and when there’s such high stakes that brings out the worst in people.”
