The Block is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, but that doesn’t mean the time away from family members is easy.

All of the contestants on this season of The Block are parents, except for Josh and Elyse, and being separated from their offspring takes its toll.

In tonight’s episode, mums Sarah and Hannah both broke down in tears when the reality of missing their kids hit home.

Hannah and husband Clint have two children, Finn, seven, and Poppy, five, while Sarah and her plumber husband Jason, have three children Henry, 12, Oscar, 10, and Greta, seven.

Hannah tells TV WEEK the hardest thing she faced during the renovations was not being able to see her kids.

“This is stressful but the hardest thing that I’m coping with is missing them,” Hannah, 31, says.

“But they’re such good kids and our parents have been so supportive.”

Husband Clint, 33, got tearful when discussing his kids.

“We’re very proud of our kids,” he says.

“As parents you try to raise them as best you can and give them good core values, and then when you spend time away from them … to see them still carry on those behaviours and be polite and courteous. We’ve got two amazing children.”

Nurse Sarah, 45, adds the children’s visit to The Block lifted her spirits.

“I’ve had good days and bad days,” she admits.

“I know they’re missing us immensely and it’s tough and I’m trying to keep busy and not think about it too much.”

Perth couple Georgia and Ronnie were on the other side of the country to their children, including Leo, four, and Charlotte, two during the renovations and were unable to see them often.

“It’s harder for us than them because they’re little and don’t understand,” Georgia, 33, says.

Doing a kid’s bedroom renovation also brought up plenty of thoughts of their children.

“I was really struggling that week because we were doing kid’s rooms and I was basically doing a room for Charlotte,” Georgia says.

“I just felt really homesick.”
