The best moments from Game Of Thrones so far

From gruesome deaths to eating a horse heart, Game Of Thrones has it all.
Jon Snow (Kit Harrington)

As season seven of Game Of Thrones begins, we look back on the best moments from the previous six seasons.

The medieval series is possibly the most popular TV series in the world and we can’t wait to see what our favourite characters are getting up to in Westeros.

Bran Stark is pushed out a window – season 1, episode 1 “Winter Is Coming”:

The moment that Jamie Lannister (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) pushed Bran (Issac Hempstead-Wright) out of the window at the end of the very first episode was the scene that hooked us all. Young Bran lost his innocence when he came across Jamie and Cersei (Lena Headey) in the middle of an incestuous romp. In a bid to try and silence the boy, Jamie pushed Bran (Isaac Hempstead-Wright) out a window, paralysing him for life.

Eddard Stark is killed – season 1, episode 9 “Baelor”:

In a bold move that no-one was expecting, the main character Ned (Sean Bean) was killed in season one. It proved that no character in the series was safe! Eddard lost his head after Joffrey (Jack Gleeson) ordered his execution.

Khal Drogo kills Viserys Targaryen – season 1, episode 6 “A Golden Crown”:

We all cheered when Khal Drogo (Jason Momoa) finally took care of his wife’s pesky brother Viserys Targaryen (Harry Lloyd). Not only had Viserys become increasingly threatening towards Danerys (Emilia Clarke), but his quest for a golden crown was becoming an obsession. Drogo made Viserys his golden crown, pouring a pot of boiling metal over his little blonde head.

Danerys eats a heart – season 1, episode 6 “A Golden Crown”:

The Mother of Dragons sure has a strong stomach! Danerys (Emilia Clarke) ate the raw heart of a stallion as part of a Dothraki pregnancy ritual. Taming dragons was a walk in the park after doing that!

Jamie Lannister loses a hand – season 3, episode 3 “Walk Of Punishment”:

The master swordsman lost a hand after he was captured and taken prisoner. When Jamie (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) did finally make it back to King’s Landing, his twin sister and lover Cersei (Lena Headey) made it clear she thought less of him because he was missing the limb. What is family for?

The Mountain versus The Viper – season 4, episode 8 “The Mountain And The Viper”:

Just when you start cheering for a new good guy, they bite the dust! Prince Oberyn (Pedro Pascal) wanted to seek revenge for the murder and rape of his sister at the hands of Gregor Clegane. However Gregor (Hafþór Julius Bjornsson) triumphed in the vicious and bloody battle.

The torture of Theon Greyjoy – season 3, episode 8 “The Bear And The Maiden Fair”:

Sure, Theon (Alfie Allen) isn’t exactly a popular character but witnessing his torture was confronting. Ramsay Snow (Iwan Rheon) took great pleasure in torturing Theon – naming him Reek and cutting off his manhood.

The Red Wedding – season 3, episode 9 “The Rains Of Castamere”:

If you hadn’t read the books and known this was coming, then it was THE biggest jaw-dropping moment the series has served up. Robb Stark (Richard Madden), his pregnant wife Talisa (Oona Chaplin) and his mother Catelyn (Michelle Fairley) were murdered at a wedding, later dubbed The Red Wedding.

Tyrion kills his father – season 4, episode 10 “The Children”:

Tyrion (Peter Dinklage) finally got his revenge on his awful dad Tywin (Charles Dance) when he shot him with a crossbow. He shot and killed his father while he was on the toilet after Tywin had just spent the night with Tyrion’s beloved Shae (Sibel Kekilli).

Joffrey kicks the bucket – season 4, episode 2 “The Lion And The Rose”:

When King Joffrey died after drinking poisoned wine, there were plenty people who were glad to see him go. The nasty Joffrey (Jack Gleeson) was brutal in getting rid of his enemies, and tormented Sansa (Sophie Turner) over the death of her father. Good riddance to the awful little fellow!

Star-crossed lovers – season 2, episode 6 “The Old Gods And The New”:

Our favourite couple of the entire series has to be wildling Ygritte (Rose Leslie) and bastard Jon Snow (Kit Harrington). The two happen to meet when Jon and Qhorin Halfhand (Simon Armstrong) come across a group of wildlings. Ygritte becomes Jon’s prisoner but eventually the two fall in love. Unfortunately it’s an unhappy ending for this pair but it was lovely while it lasted.

The Battle – season 6, episode 9 “Battle Of The Bastards”:

This epic battle could possibly be one of the most interesting scenes of TV ever. The scale of the production is insane and you feel as though you are right there with Jon (Kit Harrington) and his gang of wildlings as they get ready to take on the awful Ramsay Bolton (Iwan Rheon) and his army.

Hold the door – season 6, episode 5 “The Door”:

The revelation of Hodor’s (Kristian Nairn) signature phrase was heartbreaking to say the least. We were left in a puddle of tears when Bran (Isaac Hempstead Wright) realised that Meera Reed’s (Ellie Kendrick) scream of “hold the door” was burned into the brain of a young Willas (Hodor) decades earlier.

Death of Ramsay Bolton – season 6, episode 9 “Battle Of The Bastards”:

Now, we thought that Joffrey’s (Jack Gleeson) death was reason to celebrate but little did we know that we would soon hate another character even more: Ramsay Bolton (Iwan Rheon). After physically and emotionally torturing both Theon (Alfie Allen) and Sansa (Sophie Turner) for what feels like years, the tables were turned when Ramsay was captured by Jon Snow (Kit Harrington). Sansa then released Ramsay’s blood thirsty dogs on to him and the rest is history.

Jon Snow’s resurrection – season 6, episode 2 “Home”:

The moment that Melisandre (Carice van Houten) resurrected a dead Jon Snow (Kit Harrington) back to life was possibly one of the greatest moments of the series. We cried many tears when Jon was killed at the end of season five, but thankfully the Red Woman was able to weave her magic and bring him back to us.
