When the curtains fell on Spicks And Specks in 2011, Wednesday nights were never the same.

Headed up by the ever-charming Adam Hills, alongside team captains Alan Brough and Myf Warhurst, the music-quiz show was a weekly source of laugh-out-loud and rack-your-brains moments.

It earnt 12 TV WEEK Logie nominations and three wins during its six-year run. Ask Adam, 48, why it struck a chord and the answer is simple.

“One of the main reasons is the chemistry between Myf, Alan and I. We got along really well and made each other laugh. Also, the show is never cynical. It was a lovely half hour of positivity about music.”

News that the gang is set to reunite for a one-off hour-long special to kick off ABC’s Ausmusic Month in November is music to viewers’ ears.

Singer Ricki-Lee Coulter, rapper Adam Briggs and comedians Frank Woodley and Denise Scott will join Alan and Myf on the panel.

And for an extra dose of nostalgia, expect plenty of cameos from Aussie music greats, plus all the quirky games you know and love from playing along in your living room, such as Adam’s favourite, Substitute.

“In the early days, when we didn’t really know what we were doing, it was the game we could always count on if we were having a bit of a rough show,” Adam admits.

Alan, Adam and Myf are reuniting for a one-off special.

Grill Adam on his favourite guest and he doesn’t hesitate.

“Weird Al Yankovic was a big one for me,” he says. “Alan and Myf were the music nerds, but I was the comedy nerd. To have one of my comedy heroes on the show, someone who I’d loved as a kid, that was mine.”

And of all the shenanigans, Adam has one he loves best.

“Frank Woodley re-enacting Nell Campbell’s TV blooper where her nipple popped out [the Aussie actress and singer was performing “Do The Swim” in a swimsuit on UK TV in 1975].

“But Frank decided to take it one step further by popping a testicle out the side of his swimsuit. What was genius was that he never told us [what he planned to do]!”

At least Adam will know to keep a closer eye on him this time around!

Spicks and Specks Reunion Special airs Sunday, 7.40pm, on ABC.
