Rebecca Gibney is set to star in a brand-new original drama, Prosper, alongside fellow Australian acting giant Richard Roxburgh.

It is unclear how many episodes the series will have, but production on the Stan original has commenced according to a post shared to Instagram of both Rebecca and Richard outside what looks like the shutter door to a studio where filming is presumably occurring.

”JUST ANNOUNCED: Richard Roxburgh and Rebecca Gibney lead the cast in the upcoming Stan Original Series Prosper, a razor-sharp drama following the founding family behind one of the fastest growing megachurches in the world. Currently in production. #ProsperOnStan #StanOriginals.”

Filming for the Stan original series is currently underway in Sydney.

Roxburgh is the recipient of a number of accolades, with a career that stretches across film, television and theatre.

Most recently he starred in Baz Luhrmann’s Academy Award nominated Elvis alongside Austin Butler.

Whilst Gibney is perhaps best known for her role on Packed to the Rafters and its 2021 reboot sequel Back to the Rafters as family matriarch Julie Rafter.

Her most recent role was in Under the Vines as Daisy, a breezy Sydney socialite transplanted to the world of winemaking in Queenstown, New Zealand.

”I am thrilled to be joining the cast of Prosper and can’t wait to start working with the incredibly talented team behind this very special and timely drama series,” said Rebecca in a statement.

”The producers have assembled an astonishing cast and crew; the scripts are fabulous and Abi Quinn [the character] is unlike anyone I have played before!”

The veteran actors have been cast as a married couple, the Quinns (Cal and his wife Abi), who run their own version of a Sydney based megachurch – U Star – that is preparing to make the lucrative jump into the US market.

But, it wouldn’t be a drama series without some drama with the official synopsis hinting at a dark secret that threatens to tear apart the Quinn family from within.

Prosper is a powerful family drama that is cleverly written, and arrives with impeccable timing,” Roxburgh said in a statement.’

”Cal Quinn is an irresistible character. He’s a luminous and powerful figure yet plagued with doubt and secrets. And the excellent writing team have surrounded him with equally complex characters.

”And I can’t wait to jump into this with the cast and bring it all to life.”

The first episode of Prosper has been titled ‘Man of God.’

Also starring is Hayley McCarthy who plays the Quinns’ daughter, a singer/songwriter for the church, newcomer Alexander D’Souza who plays the couple’s adopted son, with Ewan Leslie playing the Quinns’ dutiful eldest child.

Sounds scandalous!

An air date has not yet been confirmed.
