Peter O’Brien and Caroline Brazier boast two enviable careers, and now they’re adding highly-coveted roles on Netflix’s first Australian original series Tidelands to their long resumes.

“It’s a huge thrill,” Caroline tells TV WEEK, admitting she was excited to receive the call to join the project.

“When you get the call to ask if you’d like to be in the first ever Australian Netflix series, that’s huge!” she says.

“It’s so true, and that was sort of lost on me for a while and now I realise that,” adds Peter. “You realise that it’s a very big deal!”

Peter (who plays Bill Sentelle) walked the red carpet with Caroline (starring as Rosa Ramos) at the show’s premiere in Sydney on Monday night, where he joked he was drawn to the show because of the “sex and violence.”

Caroline, however, says it was the chance to play a different type of character that led her to sign on.

“My character is very different to anything I’ve ever done before, I’m probably best known for playing Wendy on Rake who’s this kind of neurotic, but very warm woman. Rosa is not,” Caroline reveals.

“I think the thing with Wendy is that she’s a very lovable character, but Rosa is not. So it was really great to play something completely different, that I’m not known for.

“She’s from a very different socio-economic world, she has a different way of solving problems, a different wardrobe, it’s something I’ve not done and it was quite scary a lot of the time but really exciting.”

Both Peter and Caroline are beloved by fans for roles they’ve taken on before, and in this day and age of the revival we just had to ask if they would ever consider returning to play an old part.

Caroline admits she would “love” to play Wendy on Rake more, though the show wrapped up its final season earlier this year.

When we mentioned the return of Alan Dale, Neighbours’ alum Peter admitted he would consider returning… on a few conditions.

“I’m not afraid to go back,” Peter says. “Alan Dale did!”

“We’re not afraid to get paid,” adds Caroline.

“Yes!” Peter laughs. “So until you make us a serious offer… we’re just thinking about it.”
