It should be the happiest day of Pierce and Chloe's lives. But when Hendrix runs away, and Pierce drops a bombshell on Chloe, their nuptials are thrown into disarray this week on Neighbours.
Hendrix's (Benny Turland) true feelings for Chloe (April Rose Pengilly) were revealed last week when the troublesome teen tried kissing his dad's fiancée.
While the bold move left Pierce (Tim Robards) and Chloe in shock, and led to Hendrix moving in with the Kennedys, wedding plans are still underway. That is, until, Hendrix flees Erinsborough on the big day.
"He has feelings for Chloe," April Rose, 31, tells TV WEEK. "It's too much for him to handle. And Chloe can understand where Hendrix is coming from, having previously had to watch Elly marry her brother."
Rejected and reeling, Hendrix uses Pierce's credit card to book a flight back home to Sydney.
Despite their qualms, Pierce decides to go after him; he can't go ahead with the wedding without his son and best man. Chloe is supportive, but is left anxiously waiting, unsure if Pierce will make it back in time.
"Chloe wants this day to be special for Pierce too, so the wedding is on hold until he can bring Hendrix back," she says of her character.
Elly (Jodi Anasta) works to keep Chloe calm, but her panic grows. What if this is karma for her ruining Mark's (Scott McGregor) wedding to Elly?
When Pierce catches up to Hendrix, his son refuses to return with him and attend the wedding. Hendrix can't understand why his dad would want him there after he tried to kiss the bride.
Hendrix, who's still harbouring the hurt from Pierce's absence while he was growing up, declares his dad can go start a new family with Chloe and forget he ever existed.
But Pierce refuses to get married without his son present. To prove it, Pierce picks up the phone and calls Chloe to tell her the wedding is off!
Meanwhile, the bride-to-be is nervously waiting at the venue, ready to walk down the aisle. But her groom is nowhere to be found.
"Chloe is panicking – she has no idea what's going on and no-one is answering her calls," April Rose explains.
Just as Chloe prepares to tell her guests the ceremony is cancelled, Pierce arrives with Hendrix in tow. The teen apologises to Chloe before the trio make their way down the aisle.
Though it's heartbreaking for Hendrix to watch Chloe marry his dad, he remains by his side nonetheless and the couple exchange vows in a heart-warming ceremony.
"Chloe is so happy," April Rose says.
However, as celebrations kick off, Hendrix asks the Kennedys if he can extend his stay. He can't bear to live under the same roof as the loved-up newlyweds.
Karl (Alan Fletcher) and Susan (Jackie Woodburne) agree, but hold off telling Chloe and Pierce, not wanting to ruin their day.
The next day, as Karl breaks the news to them, the couple are sympathetic. Pierce blames himself for not being there when Hendrix was a kid. When Chloe tries to reassure her husband, he's forced to come clean – he signed a deal to be a sperm donor for Hendrix' mum, Lisa, but also agreed to keep his distance from the family.
The news is a bombshell for Chloe.
"She tries not to judge, but it's not the situation Pierce had her believe," April Rose says.
