It’s the moment that everyone’s talking about. During Samuel Johnson’s acceptance speech for the TV WEEK Gold Logie, Molly Meldrum joined him on stage, and took over some of the spotlight with a passionate speech of his own.

Molly has since apologised for interrupting Sam’s special moment.

“I just wanted to give Sam the hat,” Molly told News Corp.

Molly presented Sam with a gold Stetson Hat.

Molly had painted a hat gold as a gift for Sam, who portrayed him on the Channel Seven miniseries Molly last year.

“I wasn’t sure if he’d win the gold, not that he didn’t deserve it, but it took me by surprise and I got a bit caught up in the moment,” he said. “I profusely apologise if I upset anyone.”

In an interview on The Project last night, Sam insisted that while Molly’s appearance on stage took him by surprise, he has no hard feelings towards his friend.

“I didn’t know what to think,” Sam said. “All of a sudden my speech started to seem a little unimportant.”

“The whole thing was a bit weird,” he continued. “But what do we want at the Logies? We want a bit of unpredictability!”

Despite how it came across, Sam knows Molly’s intentions were good.

“Underneath it all, it was a really sweet act,” Sam said.

Sam then went on the say how special it was to see his sister Connie celebrating his Logies success.

“To see her so uninhibited, to see her so full of joy, during such a sh-tty time… I can’t tell you what it meant to me,” an emotional Sam revealed. “We were so pumped, the whole family! The effect it’s had on our family, I can’t tell you.”

While his Gold speech was hijacked, he did dedicate his win for Best Actor to his sister Connie. See the heart-felt dedication in the video below.

Sam also took to the Love Your Sister Facebook page to thank the “village” behind the charity.

“I was going to dedicate my gold Logie to you, our ratbag villagers. I don’t want you to think that I forgot you,” he wrote on the page.
