Despite a career that spans decades and the fact she’s already won an AACTA ((Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts) Award for Janet King, the thrill of being recognised for her work hasn’t worn off one bit for actress Marta Dusseldorp.

Marta, 44, tells TV WEEK she’s delighted to receive another nomination for her portrayal of Janet King in the ABC drama this year.

The actress was today announced as a nominee for an AACTA Award for Best Lead Actress in a Television Drama for the series.

Also in the category are Toni Collette – Blue Murder: Killer Cop (Seven Network), Elisabeth Moss – Top Of The Lake: China Girl (Foxtel/BBC First) and Pamela Rabe – Wentworth (Foxtel/Showcase).

“It’s a lovely recognition,” she says.

Janet is so important to me and she’s so loved by so many people, and I think each season you hope that you take it a bit further or explore something different.”

Marta, who is also an associate producer on the series, is also proud to be recognised alongside her esteemed female peers.

She declares television roles for actresses have never been better.

“I think female driven roles, especially for my age, are the strongest they’ve ever been,” Marta says.

“And what I love about that is, you can’t go backwards from that – that will never go away now. It will only get better and more complex and there will only be more of them.”

She adds she’s proud to watch fellow actresses appearing in such diverse series such as Wentworth on Australian TV.

Marta also plays Sarah in A Place To Call Home

“I think that everyone I see on screen is doing an extraordinary job and there isn’t a weak link,” she says.

“The women absolutely love what they do and it’s an honour to be a part of that and be around it – I find it really inspiring.”

Another Aussie is leading the AACTA charge – Big Little Lies star and Emmy winner Nicole Kidman has scored two nominations. She’s up for Best Supporting Actress in A Television Drama Series for Foxtel’s Top of The Lake: China Girl and Best Supporting Actress in a Film for Lion.
