They were this year’s MAFS golden couple and Alene Khatcherian tells OK! she still gets stopped in the street and asked about her relationship with screen “hubby” Simon McQuillan.
“[Fans] ask me if Simon and I are still together,” she admits.

Sadly, the nurse and Simon called time on their relationship in May.
“We tried. We gave it 200 per cent,” tells the 31-year-old.
And while distance was a major factor in their decision to part ways – Simon lives in Queensland and Alene in Sydney – it wasn’t the only reason.
MAFS stars Alene & Simon were this year’s fan faves.
“It was a difficult decision. I knew that it wasn’t going to be easy.”
“Besides the distance, the different lifestyles and what he wants to do with his life and what kind of future he wants for himself, there was a huge difference there in the goals,” Alene shared with OK!.
“So we knew that someone had to sacrifice and we reached a stage where we were like, ‘Let’s be honest, someone is not going to be happy eventually.'”
“We were like, ‘Let’s stay friends,'” she admits.
“We tried…we came to the conclusion that it was hard and that it was best to part ways while we are still friends and don’t hate each other.”
And while they may have parted ways, Alene admits the pair still keep in touch.
“We text each other,” she tells.
However, it seems a reunion between the two is out of the question. “That’s all in the past,’ Alene tells. “And now that we’ve had the break from each other, we’ve both realised and understand that it would have been really hard for it to work, only because of the different lifestyles. Now we can see it would have been hard.”
But Alene hasn’t given up on love and admits she is “open and ready” to finding her Mr Right. “I believe the right person will come at the right time,” she shares.
