Sad news, Love Child fans.

While it was speculated that the Australian drama wouldn’t be returning next year, Nine have officially confirmed that the fifth season won’t be going ahead.

The show, which focused on a Sydney boarding house in the 1960s, was a success for the last four years and featured a bevy of Aussie talent – Jessica Marais, Miranda Tapsell, Ryan Johnson, Andy Ryan, Jonathan LaPaglia and Mandy McElhinney.

Season four, however, saw a big drop in ratings.

Jessica, who also starred in two seasons of comedy The Wrong Girl, won two TV WEEK Logie Awards for Most Popular Actress for her role as midwife Joan Miller.

There are more Aussie dramas that have uncertain fates for 2018.

Season three of The Wrong Girl hasn’t been confirmed by Network Ten, and Offspring and House Husbands appears to have come to an end.

Deborah Mailman, who appeared in Offspring, told Confidential: “You don’t want to keep pushing out a show that’s sort of lost its appeal.”

“It’s very difficult to know what sort of life Australian drama has on our screens anymore.

Rhys Muldoon also told Confidential that House Husbands is finished.

“We’ve done five seasons. We’re not coming back; let’s just say it,” he said.

There is a chance, however, that some of these shows could be confirmed at a later date, or possibly even return in 2019. Maybe they’re taking a year-long hiatus to refresh and come back better than ever.

We’re hoping it’s the latter.
