“I feel overwhelmed and ecstatic and just so immensely proud to be a part of it,” says the Melbourne-based star.

Giving OK! the inside scoop, Lily spilled the beans on her cast mates and what it’s like playing her dream role. “There are so many different feisty, weird and kooky characters in this show,” says Lily. “We all feel like sisters off-set, too.”

Were you nervous about taking on a role as iconic as Miranda?

“Of course! I went through the absolute wringer to get the role, too. I had about five or six auditions. Because she is a character who already exists on film and in people’s minds, it’s hard to play. This production is not about trying to re-create, but respect the story, and so this Miranda is very different to the one who went before.”

What was it like to work with big stars like Natalie Dormer, Yael Stone and Samara Weaving?

“Amazing. We are all now sisters for life. We have group texts and messages going on all the time. One of them with me, Samara and Nat is actually called Picnic Bitches!”

How did you get into acting?

“I went to see a show by the QUT [Queensland University of Technology] students a few years ago – which Anna McGahan, who plays Picnic’s Miss McGraw was in – and I just fell in love with that production. So then I started going to open auditions and I was lucky enough to get [2012 film] Mental with Toni Collette. It’s been a slow and steady progression for me.”
