Iconic SBS World News presenter Lee Lin Chin is departing the network after 30 years.

SBS confirmed the sad news today, revealing her final broadcast will air on Sunday 29 July at 6:30pm.

Lee Lin is one of Australia’s most recognisable and respected newsreaders, along with being a social media fiend with a hilarious Twitter feed.

The newsreader reveals her decision to leave was not made lightly.

“Having spent the bulk of my professional life at SBS, this isn’t by any means an easy decision,” she says.

“I shall be leaving a happy and satisfying role as a newsreader. My friends and colleagues for whom I have fervent respect will be deeply missed.”

Lee Lin Chin departs SBS World News.

SBS Managing Director Michael Ebeid says Lee Lin’s incredible personality will be missed.

“SBS would like to pay tribute to Lee Lin and thank her for her significant contribution to SBS, but also to the wider Australian media industry,” he says.

“Lee Lin is truly one of a kind and we will miss her colourful personality gracing our screens on the weekend. Lee Lin embodies everything that SBS stands for and will always be part of the SBS family. We respect her decision to embrace new projects and wish her all the very best for the future.”

The network also shared they are welcoming back journalist Anton Enus, who will present two bulletins a week upon his return.

“I’d like to pay tribute to Lee Lin, whom I’ve worked with for nearly 20 years at SBS,” Anton says.

“She has set such a great example for her colleagues here and across the television industry. She’s a class act.”

Lee Lin Chin attends the 2016 TV WEEK Logie Awards as a Gold Logie nominee.

Lee Lin, who successfully began her own TV WEEK Gold Logie campaign that saw her nominated for the award in 2016, is known for her quick wit and remarkable intelligence.

When she was nominated in 2016, Lee Lin quipped she was disappointed that the 2015 Logie Awards were her first ever.

“You’d have thought that during my 25 years of hosting the news, someone would have invited me before,” joking, “I’m not angry about it, just disappointed.”

She also joked she just wanted to get “a bit more famous, to the point where I don’t need to pay for my beers anymore.”

We’re sad to see our hilarious Queen Lee Lin depart the show, though we can’t wait to see what she does next.

Lee Lin Chin will sign off from SBS World News on Sunday 29 July, 6.30pm.
