About to hit 40, Julie Goodwin tells Glen Williams why each decade just gets better.
Queen of her kitchen, blissfully happy with her personal life, and now starring in a brand new TV project, Home Cooked!, Julie Goodwin seems to have mastered the recipe for continued success.
Julie says she can't stop pinching herself over where the past year has taken her. She's particularly excited about her new program, which will see her back in the kitchen, cooking up a storm and sharing tips with celebrity guests including cricketing great Steve Waugh, Underbelly's Gyton Grantley, Amanda Keller and Natalie Gruzlewski.
"I'm loving it," says Julie, on the set of the show. "I never thought a love of cooking would lead me to this. It was always just something I did for my family and friends. So Home Cooked! really is an amazing experience."
She's also embracing the idea of turning 40 in October, a celebration she says will be "a family and friends affair". "Wow, 40!" she exclaims with a laugh. "I'm looking forward to my forties because every decade seems to get better.
"You know yourself better at this stage of life. You're more confident. I wish I could go back and say to my 20-year-old self, 'Don't be so hard on yourself.' I had three babies and wanted everything to be perfect. And, of course, it can't be. Motherhood is bloody hard. If I could have that time again, I'd worry so much less and play so much more."
