Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Emmy winner and star of HBO’s Veep has announced she has been diagnosed with breast cancer.
She shared the news on social media in a note saying, “1 in 8 women get breast cancer. Today, I’m the one.”
“The good news is that I have the most glorious group of supportive and caring family and friends, and fantastic insurance through my union.”
“The bad news is that not all women are so lucky, so let’s fight all cancers and make universal health care a reality.”
HBO has released a statement following the announcement, which reports the 56-year-old actress was diagnosed just one day after she won her sixth consecutive lead actress Emmy for Veep. During her acceptance speech, the star drew attention to the urgent need of universal health care.
HBO have also confirmed they will adjust filming of the latest season of Veep where needed.
“Our love and support go out to Julia and her family at this time,” read the statement.
“We have every confidence she will get through this with her usual tenacity and undaunted spirit, and look forward to her return to health and to HBO for the final season of Veep.”
The actress is also known for roles as Elaine Benes in Seinfeld and Christine in The New Adventures of Old Christine.
Julia lives with her husband of 20 years, Brad Hall and her two sons.
