Here’s what in store for Penny and Hugh when we return to Whyhope

It’s been nine months since we last caught up with the residents of Whyhope, and Doctor Doctor fans are keen to know what they can expect to see when the show returns.

When last we left off, Dr Hugh Knight (Rodger Corser) had just become a father, and his ex, Harriet, had fled town.

This derailed Hugh’s plans to move back to Sydney, which left him in an awkward spot with Penny (Hayley McElhinney) who had given him the ultimatum that they could only be together if he remained in Whyhope.

So, what will happen next in the will-they-won’t-they romance of Hugh and Penny?

We caught up with Hayley at the TV WEEK Logie Awards on Sunday, where she gave us some insight in to the new season.

“Well there’s definitely, um, the love between Penny and Hugh is still there,” Penny says. “But there’s always an obstacle, so that still exists.”

Will Penny and Hugh finally be together?

She also reveals that the new season is just as fun as ever – if not more fun.

“You’ll also get to see a lot of playfulness on the set as well,” she says. “Like the characters, we know them deeper, so it’s kind of more playful than ever before.

“We’re saving lives, but then we do a joke. It’s kind of like that, and that’s still there.”

Penny also says that the show’s recent string of nominations at the TV WEEK Logie Awards has been a great bonding moment for the cast and crew.

“Nothing seems to have changed, but we just love each other more! Like the love’s got deeper. Does that make sense?” she says.
