He’s never shy of a few words post-rugby match, nor is he apprehensive to pose for commercials in his undies, but it seems Nick ‘Honey Badger’ Cummins is struggling to show his romantic side in his new role as Australia’s next Bachelor.

The Sydney Morning Herald reports, while on a date with one of his gorgeous suitors, it took the Badge-ular numerous attempts to plant a peck on his date’s cheek.

The former Wallaby, 30, and a blonde beauty were filmed on a date this week at the lagoon at Sydney’s The Basin in Pittwater, when he failed in his attempts at PDA.

Surrounded by a dozen or so crew members watching and recording their every move, Nick was asked to redo the moment he handed the woman vying for his love a rose three times in the hopes of capturing a more affectionate reaction. Unfortunately all they – and the girl – got was a quick peck on the cheek.

An eyewitness told the paper producers were working hard to get Nick to turn on the fireworks, but he didn’t do it.

“The crew even backed away to give them some more space but in the end the kiss on the cheek lasted less than a second,” the source said.

The wild-haired rugby larrikin perhaps doesn’t fit the usual Bachelor mold, and many were shocked to discover a man self-dubbed The Honey Badger, was Australia’s next eligible bachelor. One man included is former X-Factor host Jason Dundas who has claimed channel 10 bosses said he was next in line to be this year’s Bachelor.

Television presenter and David Jones model Jason Dundas said he was promised the role of the Bachelor by bosses at Channel 10, but lost out to Nick.

During an interview with Page Six TV, the 35-year-old took a swipe at Nick claiming he missed out on his chance to find love because of “some rugby player”.

“I’ve been on TV for 15 years in Australia so it is hard to find someone who doesn’t look at you as that guy on TV,” Jason complained.

“They said to me, ‘this is an environment where there’s a bunch of amazing girls we’ve hand-picked for you and they have no influence from the outside world, they can’t Google, social media, ask their friends’.”

The US crew on talk show then showed a picture of Nick Cummins and agreed Jason should have gotten the gig.

“This guy!? The Honey Badger he beat me!” Jason said in mock outrage.

While Jason may not be convinced of Nick’s appointment, we certainly are! We just hope The Honey Badger will warm up to his new role as The Bachelor toot sweet – we’re banking on a love-filled season this year!
