When Australian Ninja Warrior came calling, Nathan McCallum was one of the first to put up his hand.

The 27-year-old was keen to prove to himself that he could do it.

But he also wanted to pay homage to his larger-than-life friend Daniel, who tragically died in a car accident a few years ago.

“He was an amazing human who was up for anything… he just spread joy wherever he went,” Nathan explains.

“It affected my mindset to try to be more that way and be open to opportunities.”

Nathan’s new outlook on life has seen him quit his job and travel the globe as a fitness and fashion blogger.

“He [Daniel] was an avid traveller,” Nathan recalls.

“But I finished school and worked full-time for 10 years.”

As he vies for the title of Australian Ninja Warrior, Nathan knows his mate will be beaming down on him with pride.

“I can envision him running courtside and screaming encouragement along with my friends,” he smiles. “I know he’d be so proud of me.”
