10 Aussie TV shows that deserve a reboot

We would love to see these old favourites return to our screens!

If the recent spate of reboots and revivals to hit our screens says anything, it’s that nostalgia is powerful enough to bring things back from the dead.

We’ve seen the cast of Will & Grace reunite for not one, but three new seasons and a brand new Sabrina The Teenage Witch reboot is heading our way early next year.

But the one glaring problem in amongst the happy news is that Australian TV shows have been overlooked.

From All Saints to McLeod’s Daughters (yes, we still have hope!), these ten Australian shows need to make a comeback.

These shows may not be listed in this year’s TV WEEK Logie Awards, but we’re sure some of your other favourites are. Have your say and cast your vote for the 2018 Logies now!

All Saints reboot

All Saints

Hitting our screens in 1998, All Saints ran for six years before the focus shifted to the Emergency Department. The rejigged version aired until 2009.

While there haven’t been any whisperings of a comeback, in 2017 TV WEEK gave us the next best thing, reuniting Georgie Parker and Erik Thomson for an exclusive chat.

Blue Heelers

Blue Heelers ran from 1994 until 2006 and followed the dramatic events of Mount Thomas Police Station as they solved the case of the week.

Fun fact: Hugh Jackman appeared as a guest star for an episode.

Frontline

A satirical comedy program which poked fun at news and current affairs, Frontline would have a lot of material to draw inspiration from in the current political climate. We can’t help but wonder how anchor Mike Moore (Rob Sitch) would tackle the Trump era!

Kath and Kim

It was noice, different and unusual, and we’d love to see a revived version back on our screens!

One star doesn’t agree, though. Peter Rowsthorn, who plays Kel Knight, says a reboot would never live up to the first one: “It would be horrible!”

McLeod’s Daughters

We’re still quite sensitive after the rollercoaster of emotions we experienced during the McLeod’s Daughter’s reboot saga, so it may be silly to still have hope about this one. So, what happened?

After a cast reunion and months of rumours a reboot was on its way, creator Posie Graeme Evans confirmed negotiations have fallen through – devastating.

Packed To The Rafters

From 2008 to 2013, we followed the Rafters family through many ups and downs. And, we’d totally be in for a few more years of laughter and tears. The question is, is it possible? To hear the cast say it, yes!

Rush

This show followed the elite Tactical Response team as it dealt with extreme situations in Melbourne. The show ended in 2011, but we still want more! We’d love to see what Senior Sergeant Lawson Blake (Rodger Corser) and the rest of the team are up to now.

Sea Patrol

Sea Patrol ran from 2007 to 2011 and was set on board HMAS Hammersley, a fictional patrol boat of the Royal Australian Navy. It starred Aussie acting royalty Lisa McCune who says it was honour to be cast: “Working alongside the Australian Navy was incredible. So many fine young men and women worked with us.”

Summer Heights High

While the spin-offs Jonah from Tonga and Ja’ime: Private School Girl were great, we can’t help but wish to see Ja’ime, Jonah and Mr. G back together again.

The Secret Life Of Us

Who didn’t fall in love with The Secret Life Of US? The incredible cast included Deborah Mailman, Claudia Karavan, Samuel Johnson and Joel Edgerton. While they’ve all gone on to do incredible things, we’d love to see them find some time to reunite.
