Gold Logie nominee Andrew Winter brushes off criticism

'Andrew Who? I often think that myself!'

Trail-blazing TV WEEK Gold Logie nominee. Call Andrew Winter whatever you like – just not a TV star.

“I don’t consider myself that and never have done,” Andrew says emphatically. “I’m just a property guy who happens to be on TV.”

The Selling Houses Australia and Love It Or List It Australia presenter may be underselling himself. Andrew has made Logies history as the first personality to be nominated for Gold who’s not on a free-to-air show.

And yet some in the industry churlishly asked “Andrew who?” when his Gold Logie nomination was revealed. British-born Andrew shrugs off suggestions he’s a TV nobody.

“Andrew Who – I often think that myself!” he jokes. “If people want to criticise me, they have every right to do so. It doesn’t bother me in the slightest.”

Andrew is the face of change in the TV industry.

For the record, he won subscription TV’s ASTRA Awards’ Favourite Male Personality five years in a row from 2010. Selling Houses Australia is now in its 11th season – and season 12 is being filmed. Andrew is no fly-by-night.

His nomination is proof, as if we needed it, that the TV industry is changing. Andrew firmly believes his nomination is a sign of things to come.

“As much as this nomination is an honour for me personally, it’s a massive step forward for other sources of television,” he says.

“My prediction is that at next year’s Logies, if there isn’t one non-free-to-air nominee, it’s likely there’ll be two.”
