BBC One’s A Very British Scandal will soon be available to screen Down Under, only a few months after its UK release.

The series, which is a follow-up to the 2018 miniseries A Very English Scandal, has been procured by Amazon Prime, and will be released in Australia, New Zealand, the US, and Canada on April 22.

Starring Claire Foy and Paul Bettany as Margaret and Ian Campbell, or the Duke and Duchess of Argyll, the three-part series will tell the story of their messy public divorce.

Their divorce proceedings were spurred when the Duke found a number of polaroid photos of the Duchess naked, and engaging in sex acts, which also led to her villainisation in the press.

The series hopes to give a new look at the scandal, which shows a lot about the attitudes toward women in the 1960s, given that Margaret was called a “promiscuous woman whose sexual appetite could only be satisfied with a number of men,” by the judge who presided over her divorce.

The feminist re-telling will focus on how Margaret was betrayed by those closest to her and publicly shamed, but still refused to go quietly from the spotlight.

This is not Claire Foy’s first time acting the part of British high society, given she is best known for her two-year role as Queen Elizabeth on the first two seasons of The Crown.

She has been described as “bringing the same masterful skills to another aristocratic but wholly different character,” in her role as Margaret.

Meanwhile, Paul Bettany is best known for his role as Vision in the Avengers films and Marvel Cinematic Universe.

While the show was made by the same bunch who created A Very English Scandal, a 2018 miniseries starring Hugh Grant, the show is not a direct follow up.

Following the Jeremy Thorpe scandal from the 1970s, the series is also available on Amazon Prime.
