A group of young children who have lost a parent were treated to a personalised Christmas message from Prince Harry… or was it Spiderman?

The Duke of Sussex donned a Spiderman costume for a video that was played to more than 100 young children at a Christmas party for those who had a parent die whilst serving in the British Armed Forces.

The charity that hosts the Christmas event, Scotty’s Little Soldiers, puts on a party for bereaved military children every year.

Harry played into this years theme, which was heroes and villains, and didn’t reveal his true identity until the very end of the video.

The heartwarming message in the video seemed to come from Harry’s own personal experience as being a child who’d lost a parent.

“Christmas is a time we will miss our loved ones really, really badly. And that’s okay,” Harry said to the children.

“But at the same time, it can be possible to feel guilty for having fun without our parents. But I am here to assure you that our parents always want us to have fun, okay?

“So don’t feel guilty – you’re allowed to have the best time ever.”

This isn’t the first time Harry has teamed up with the charity. Last month for Remembrance Day he wrote to the children and in 2019 he dressed up again – this time as Santa – to send another Christmas message to the kids of Scotty’s Little Soldiers.

Not only can Harry relate to these children’s losses, as he lost his mother Princess Diana when he was just 12-years-old, but also understands the complications of having a family member in the military as he served himself for the British Armed Forces from 2005 to 2015.

Harry may have had his two of his own children, son Archie, three, and 17-month-old daughter Lilibet, in his mind as he tried to bring some Christmas cheer to the bereaved kids.

Now we just have to wait a whole year to see what he dresses up as next!
