With one Instagram post, Emily Symons just reflected how many, many Australian parents have been feeling this week.

As school returns for 2021, it marks the beginning of a new chapter for our next generation – and that includes Emily’s young son Henry.

On Thursday, the Home and Away actress shared an emotional update to her Instagram account as she sent Henry off on his first day of school.

“It’s a thumbs up from Henry on the way to his first day at school!” She wrote alongside the pic of her son, who is proudly kitted out in his new school uniform and sharing a big thumbs up.

“Happily walked off with his teacher and his classmates… there may have been a few tears from his Mama. Such an exciting day,” Emily finished.

Emily welcomed her son age 45 after years of failed cycles of IVF.

But in 2015, the now 50-year-old’s dream of having a child came true when she welcomed Henry with her then partner Paul Jackson.

“I thought it would be impossible but it isn’t. I’d given up, really, I thought I had tried every avenue that was available to us. My advice is to not give up if you’re feeling a bit overwhelmed by the whole process,” she said at the time.

Emily and her son share a very special bond, with the actress often taking to her Instagram account to share sweet updates about their various adventures.

Henry’s first day of school has been highly anticipated – back in October, the doting mum shared a cute selfie with her son.

“Managed to get him to stand still for 5 seconds for start of Term 4 pic!” She wrote as he began to wrap up his pre-school days.

“Big school next year, it’s all happening so fast!” she added next to a shocked face emoji.

Going by the looks of things, it seems like little Henry is absolutely fizzing for school – good luck to him, and big love to his mum.

A new and very exciting chapter begins!
