Lisa Wilkinson, who recently quit The Project, has taken to Instagram to share a sweet tribute to fellow journalist, Ita Buttrose.

“I have so much to be grateful to Ita Buttrose for, and if you’ve read my autobiography, you’ll know that it all started with a note she wrote me when I was a young, wet-behind-the-ears magazine editor in the early 80s just starting out,” Lisa wrote.

“By the mid-80s I had become editor of CLEO, the magazine she had so successfully launched back in 1972, and then in the mid-90s when I moved across to TV, we became fellow panellists on Beauty & The Beast – and we both had a ball.”

“In the years since our paths have continued to cross in the nicest possible ways,” Lisa continued.

She then shared that tonight, Monday November 28 at 8pm, she gets “to say thank you” to Ita during ABC’s Australian Story.

Australian Story is a documentary series that follows the life journey of various Australians and tonight’s episode is dedicated to Ita’s life journey.

Judging by Lisa’s post, she must’ve been interviewed about Ita for the show and will appear on tonight’s episode.

Just last week, Lisa announced she was leaving The Project; just a month after her co-host Carrie Bickmore.

After five years at the desk, Lisa revealed the “toxicity” emitting from the media was impacting herself and those around her.

Lisa recently left The Project, citing “targeted toxicity by some sections of the media” as the reason for her departure.

“The last six months have not been easy and the relentless, targeted toxicity by some sections of the media has taken a toll not just on me but on people I love,” she said.

“Don’t get me wrong. I’m not above criticism. Far from it. I’m human, and I don’t always get it right. None of us do. But by god I’ve tried. I’ve given this job everything I have.”

“These people are genuinely; are some of the most talented and decent humans I know. And you, our passionate, engaged audience, have been so kind in making me feel so welcome in your homes. I’ve had a ball, but for me, right now, it’s time for a change.”

Despite her likely appearance on ABC’s show tonight, Lisa has affirmed she will not be leaving Channel Ten following her exit from The Project.

“I have had a ball. But for me right now it’s time for a change. To be clear. I’m not leaving Ten and we’re looking at some very exciting work ideas ahead,” she said.
