“When you take your hijab off after a sunny day”: Waleed Aly’s wife Susan Carland’s Instagram joke

Waleed did say she was the “funnier” one in their marriage.

Susan Carland, Waleed Aly’s wife, is not only a media personality, academic, sociologist and doctor in the field of political and social inquiry (phew!), apparently she’s also a comedian.

Overnight, the former-Australian Muslim Of The Year took to social media to share a joke about the reality of wearing a hijab every day with her 14,000-strong Instagram following.

Posting a picture of a model sans hijab, yet with almost-white foundation outlining her face, she quipped: “When you take your hijab off after a sunny day.”

Her followers responded in hilarity.

“Love love love your sense of humour @susancarland”, one user posted.

Another agreed, tagging her friend: “@seemab_1989 yep hijab tan lines lol, still is evident on my forehead ahahaha[sic].”

It’s posts like this that perhaps reaffirm Waleed’s comments following his TV Week Gold Logie win earlier this year. During his acceptance speech, the 38-year-old gushed that his wife, 36, is “sharper”, “funnier” and “ infinitely more charming and likeable” than he is.

Suffice to say that this couple are as modest, and hilarious, as each other.
