The wildest Teen Choice Awards outfits ever

To celebrate the upcoming 2015 Teen Choice Awards, we look back at the wackiest and most wonderful outfits ever worn at the event.

Over the years, the Teen Choice Awards have seen its fair share of out-there outfits.

From leather jumpsuits to sequined track pants, the stars that have graced that surfboard-studded red carpet have more often than not fallen prey to the colourful trends of the Noughties, or the naughtiness of the Nineties.

A far cry from the elegance of the Oscars, or the theatricality of the Grammys, the Teen Choice Awards are all about how edgy and how OTT you can be – and how many sequins you can fit onto one piece of clothing.

In preparation for the ensembles we’ll see later today at the 2015 TCAs in LA, we take a look back at the most outrageous and most in-your-face ensembles that have ever graced the event.

Britney’s sequined pink track pants in 1999 and denim-kimono-belted open shirt in 2001 were both major hits in our books.

With her pastel tips, plunging dress and mullet hemline it looked like Brit was channelling the early Noughties at this year’s event! The popstar scooped up a Style Icon Surfboard at the bash. “Fashion has always been something I’ve loved to experiment with,” she said at the event.

We can’t decide which one we like more on Pink – the two piece leather halter-jumpsuit with the cowboy hat in 1999, or the thigh-high split denim skirt with watermelon print bikini in 2000?

What could possibly say “2004” more than Ashlee Simpson in a flouncy skirt, teamed with a black tank and checkered pumps?

Kelly Clarkson’s first TCA appearance in 2002 involved this ripped Americana tee, a denim skirt and platformed sandals. And pigtails, of course.

We’re not sure what to call these looks by heartthrob brothers, Nick and Aaron Carter in 2001… pirate chic? Vagabonds from the Seventies? Austin Powers-turned-hippie? We’ll let you decide.

The only thing more “1999” than Alyson Hannigan’s UFO print basketball jersey dress is her blue eyeshadow.

Kelly Osbourne, is that you? The singer and host looked pretty different back in 2002 – we think the “barefoot on the red carpet” thing had something to do with it.

Hey, the girl’s got a look. Gwen Stefani showed off her amazing abs in these skin-baring ensembles in 2001.

Destiny’s Child’s crochet co-ordination at the 2001 TCAs totally stole the show.

Which gets your vote – Jessica Simpson’s cargo pants and corset in 2006, or leather zip-up top with embellished jeans in 2000? We’re leaning towards the latter.

Shakira showed off her fun side in a vintage tee, army pants tucked into gold boots and an embellished belt at the 2005 TCAs.

Bootcut jeans, peasant top and cornrows? No one did 2005 like Mariah Carey.

Oh Justin, how far you’ve come! The singer rocked this brown pants and tee combo at the 2002 TCAs.
