Would you meet your date’s mother on the first date?

Bad news, ladies: the screening process for dating Jake Gyllenhaal includes meeting his mother ... on the first date.

Just ahead of Mother’s Day, Jake Gyllenhaal has revealed he brings all of his first dates home to mum!

The 34-year-old actor appeared on The Ellen Show yesterday and claimed that all his dates have to go through mum first.

“I always bring my dates to my mother’s house for the first date,” said the actor, “I think that’s a good move.”

As to whether his dates think it’s a good move, that’s yet to be ascertained but Jake said his mum is delighted her son trusts her judgement.

“My mother thinks arranged marriages actually might be able to work … in a good way. She thinks that if she picked for me that I’d do a lot better.”

In celebration of Mother’s Day (May 10th, don’t forget!), we’ve compiled a list of our favourite Hollywood mama’s boys.

Jake Gyllenhaal and Naomi Foner Gyllenhaal: “I always bring my dates to my mother’s house for the first date,” said Gyllenhaal, “I think that’s a good move.”

Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson and Ata Johnson: From divorce to surviving cancer to attempted suicide to surviving a head on collision with a drunk driver (and raising a trouble makin’ punk ass kid). After all that, she still remains the most warmest, kind, loving and certainly toughest woman I know. HAPPY BIRTHDAY MOM. I love you. #Aiga

Bradley Cooper and Gloria Campano: In 2013, Cooper admitted that he had been living with his mother for two years after the death of his father. “Here’s the thing: She’s a cool chick. We can hang, and she can roll with the punches.”

Justin Timberlake and Lynn Harless: Justin is a self-confessed mama’s boy, writing “Happy Bday to my first partner in crime and the FIRST QUEEN OF THE HOUSE. We have been through so much together and I love you more than words can begin to describe. Everything I am and continue to strive to be is because of you. I love you, Momma! #UandMeVsAnybody”. Sweet.

Leonardo DiCaprio and Irmelin Indenbirken: “My mother is a walking miracle,” said Leo, “”To have a woman like [my mother] in your life, who is strong, who’ll behonest with you about who you are … that’s something I treasure. And it’s something I look for in a woman.”

Tom Cruise and Mary Lee Cruise: “My mom kept saying, ‘you’ve got so much potential. Don’t give up.’ She worked three jobs and took care of my sisters and me.”

Johnny Depp and Betty Sue Depp: “The greatest lady in the world. She’s my best friend, the coolest thing in the world

Javier Bardem and Pilar Bardem: Javier’s number one piece of advice? “You should always listen to your mother!”

Jared Leto and Constance Leto: Jared honoured his mother in his Oscars acceptance speech, “She was a high school dropout and a single mom, but somehow she managed to make a better life for herself and her children. She encouraged her kids to be creative, to work hard and to do something special. That girl is my mother and she’s here tonight. And I just want to say, I love you, Mom. Thank you for teaching me to dream.”

Matthew McConaughey and Mary Kay McConaughey: “She also taught me to look at life as if it were a rose in a vase, something beautiful. If I woke in a grumpy mood she’d come up and hit me on the side of the head. She would say, ‘You can go back down that hallway and start over’. I would have to go back to my room and begin the day again.”

And er… this one.

Shia La Beouf and Shayna La Beouf: “Probably the sexiest woman I know is my mother. She’s an ethereal angel. Nobody looks like that woman. If I could meet my mother and marry her, I would. I would be with my mother now, if she weren’t my mother, as sick as that sounds.”
