Taking to Instagram following the revelation he was up for four gongs, including Record of the Year thanks to his smash hit Thinking Out Loud, Ed tweeted: “I wasn’t expecting the Grammy noms, thank you.”

Everyone’s favourite #squad leader Taylor Swift also cleaned up nicely, bagging an impressive seven nods for Record of the Year, Album of the Year, Song of the Year, Best Music Video, Best Pop Solo Performance, Best Pop Vocal Album and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance.

Canadian newcomer The Weeknd, aka Abel Tesfaye, 25, also landed seven nods. But the front-runner of the upcoming ceremony was 28-year-old rapper Kendrick Lamar, who landed a whopping 11 nominations.

Locally, Melbourne singer Courtney Barnett, 28, is up for Best New Artist while Perth group Tame Impala are in the Best Alternative Music Album category.

Surprisingly names like Madonna, Rihanna and Lana Del Rey were overlooked. While Adele’s latest offering 25 is not eligible as it was released after the cut-off date.
