Tamara Jaber lets out a loud laugh when she’s asked how she feels about her famous ex-husband still talking about their doomed relationship more than a decade after she ended it.

“I can’t believe I’m such good content 10 years on,” grins Tamara, 38, who hasn’t spoken to Kyle Sandilands since their split, but recently overheard him reading a love letter to her on his radio show – which her mum was listening to!

“I do find it amusing. I’m going to call it flattering. I haven’t spoken to him in years. We never saw each other again after I left, but I 100 per cent want him to be happy. I have zero negative emotions.”

Chatting to Woman’s Day, Tamara reveals that she sold Kyle’s flashy engagement ring years ago because “when you move on, you see no point in hanging onto something like that” and now wears a beautiful emerald-cut diamond engagement ring from her new fiance.

San Francisco-based lawyer Eduardo Roy proposed to Tamara in Mexico in 2019, and she can’t wait to wed her handsome new man and start a family.

They met by chance five years ago, after he tripped and almost fell into her lap in the lobby of an LA hotel where she was performing.

“He’s extremely intelligent and he intrigues me,” says Tamara.

“I never date men like Kyle. I date more reserved people. Eduardo has a regal presence and I just loved talking to him. He encouraged me to go to university and he’s incredibly supportive. I’ve never been happier.”

Tamara returned home to Sydney earlier this year in the middle of the pandemic after seven failed attempts at securing a flight home.

She was forced to leave Eduardo behind because she was so desperately homesick.

“It was extremely isolating being in the US, and living with the constant fear of getting sick,” she says.

“I was so desperate to come home and see my family, and I had to leave Eduardo there, the poor love.”

She’s now preparing to go back to San Francisco to plan her wedding after she completes the last semester of her degree in communications and media technology at the Academy of Art University, where she’ll graduate in May.

Tamara, who moved to LA after splitting with Kyle in 2010, says studying for a degree has been “priceless” and helped her grow as a person.

Looking back, the singer, who found fame in 2001 when she won TV show Popstars as part of group Scandal’us, regrets how she dealt with fame.

“I’d handle it very differently now,” she says.

“It was fun, but it’s more fun being disconnected from fame. I don’t miss all the bullsh*t that comes with it. I’m way too old to be recognised now. When I was doing TV shows in Australia, my nieces and nephews weren’t even born. I have to tell them, ‘You know your aunty was famous once!'”

Tamara, who has run two half marathons and plans to do another this year, says turning her back on fame has also made her a healthier and happier person.

“I’m not obsessed like I used to be because I’m not being judged as a product on my looks or body shape,” she says.

The singer, dancer and TV presenter says she has spent the past four years redefining herself and hopes to use her degree to get a gig on TV.

But she has a word of warning for kids dreaming of fame and fortune.

“The end goal cannot just be fame because you will be unfulfilled,” says Tamara.

“I didn’t enjoy fame. I did all these cool things, but I was always worried about what people thought and I took any criticism personally. It made me miserable. I was Kyle’s wife and he was a shock jock – and that was difficult.”

The wedding she’s planning to Eduardo couldn’t be more different to the lavish million-dollar ceremony she had with Kyle all those years ago.

“I’ve had the big wedding and I don’t need one of those again,” she says.

“I’ve always loved kids and I feel like I’m ready to be a mum. I’d love to have twins.”
