The Deadpool cast and crew are in mourning following the death of a female stunt woman who died on the set of the Deadpool sequel in Vancouver on Monday.

The unnamed driver reportedly lost control of a Ducati during the fifth take of a scene for the movie.

Global News reports the driver crashed her bike into a glass lobby of the Shaw Tower at around 8am.

“Vancouver Police can confirm that a female stunt driver has died on the set of Deadpool during a stunt on a motorcycle. VPD officers are at the scene, along with officers from WorkSafeBC,” an official statement from the Vancouver Police Department explained.

Meanwhile the movie’s lead star Ryan Reynolds took to social media to send his heartfelt condolences to his castmate’s family.

“Today, we tragically lost a member of our crew while filming Deadpool,” Ryan said.

“We’re heartbroken, shocked and devastated… but recognise nothing can come close to the grief and inexplicable pain her family and loved ones must feel in this moment. My heart pours out to them — along with each and every person she touched in this world.”

A statement from 20th Century Fox said: “We are deeply saddened by the accident that occurred on the set of Deadpool 2 this morning. Our hearts and prayers are with the family, friends and colleagues of our crew member during this difficult time.”

According to Deadline this was the driver’s first movie working as a stunt person and she had not been wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.

The woman was believed to be an experienced race car driver who had been rehearsing the sequence for “two full days.”

An eyewitness told Metro News she narrowly “missed two pedestrians” during the crash.

“She came out, went down the two flights of stairs, and it looked like she kind of hit the throttle because she picked up speed,” Nathan Kramchynski told the publication.

“Before you know it, she crossed (the) street then (we) kind of lost her to view but we saw she had no where else to go. It was like, she was going full throttle — and then there’s a building there.”

Filming for the movie has been suspended.

The film’s lead star Ryan Reynolds has led the tributes.
