Sophie Monk appeared to be showing the strain of hosting Nine’s new dating show Love Island last week as she puffed away on a cigarette during a break from filming.

The make-up free star, 38, looked stressed, pausing to close her eyes and to check her phone as she lit up on her hotel balcony.

Since arriving in Spain, Sophie has copped a significant amount of criticism about her lack of involvement on the show.

Evicted Islander Charlie Taylor only added fuel to the fire last week when he revealed he barely saw the host during his time in the Spanish villa.

He told Nova’s Fitzy & Wippa, “I’ve seen her twice in the last eight to nine days – in the first and last episode, I saw her.”

But Sophie hit back on Instagram, “It’s not about me… I’m addicted to the show! But my job is to not get too involved.”

Evicted contestant Charlie spilled, “I’ve seen her twice in the last eight to nine days – in the first and last episode, I saw her.”

Meanwhile, whenever the pretty blonde does appear on screen, viewers have been quick to critique her.

“Sophie sounds like an absolute bogan and has no idea how to speak or read lines,” wrote one viewer.

“She is an embarrassment,” said another.

Over recent weeks Soph has also sparked concern for her health after looking noticeably slimmer – perhaps a sign she’s struggling to deal with the pressure of fronting the hosting gig.

In the first week of filming, the singer – who’s rumoured to have accepted a whopping $1m pay packet for the job – endured a 20 hour day, and went on to tell her Instagram fans, “I literally live out of my suitcase”.

To make matters worse, the lonely star has also been feeling homesick, telling fans she misses her family on her Instagram story.

“My nephews and niece make me so happy. I miss them,” she wrote, accompanied with a sad face.

Cheer up, Soph – it’s freezing back here in Australia!
