Sonia Kruger has told the September issue of The Australian Women's Weekly that she asked a friend to donate an egg so she could finally realise her long-held dream of falling pregnant.

In an exclusive interview, the Mornings and Big Brother presenter reveals the number of rounds of IVF she undertook and the number of miscarriages she suffered before finally falling pregnant sixteen weeks ago with an egg donated by a close friend.

“I want to be really open with people about the fact it is an egg donor baby because we occasionally see in the media women over the age of 40 falling pregnant and having babies. And I know from personal experience that you can be lulled into a false sense of security, believing you can put off motherhood and fall pregnant when you want to. But it’s not true. At least, it wasn’t for me.”

In the interview, Sonia details the lengths to which she and her partner, TV executive Craig McPherson went to conceive, and describes the moment she first saw a heartbeat in the ultrasound of the child she is carrying.

The six page story, which features a stunning series of new photos of the mum-to-be whilst in Hawaii on ‘babymoon’ recently, also reveals that Sonia and Craig know the sex of their unborn child.
