Well regarded for her husky vocals, Australian soul singer Renée Geyer has passed, aged 69.
Her death was due to complications following hip surgery, with her family releasing a statement announcing her death on January 17th.
“While in hospital, it was discovered that Renée also had inoperable lung cancer,” the statement read.
“She was in no pain and died peacefully amongst family and friends.
“Naturally we are all utterly devastated.”
In the 2010’s she was able to fight off breast cancer.

(Credit: (Image: Getty))Geyer’s singing career began as a member of different jazz-rock groups, before she launched her solo career with a self-titled album in 1973.
She released her highest-charting single, Heading in the Right Direction, in 1975.
Her talents lead to her becoming a a sought-after vocalist, allowing her to work with notable names including Sting, Joe Cocker and Chaka Khan.
She released an autobiography, Confessions of a Difficult Woman, in 2000, and was inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame in 2005.
Aged 69, Renee had no plans to slow down, as the statement detailed how she was keeping busy doing what she loved most – singing. In December 2022, just a month before her death, she had performed to a full house.
“She lived her life as she performed – to the fullest – and her passing leaves a giant void in the Australian music industry,” read the statement.
