One of Olivia Newton-John’s final wishes has been revealed in never-before-seen footage captured before her tragic death on August 8, 2022.

Speaking in the previously unseen footage, the legendary singer said she had never thought about her death “deeply” but knew she wanted some of her ashes scattered in Australia.

Byron Bay was her location of choice, as she previously owned a property there and the ashes of her late mother and sister had also been spread at the coastal NSW town.

“I don’t think I’ve really thought about it that deeply. We all should,” Olivia revealed in the bittersweet footage aired as part of the Seven special Spotlight: Olivia – A Magical Life.

“But I’d like to be with them, I’d like to be with them … that would be nice.”

Olivia’s emotional final wish was revealed just days after it was confirmed that her family had accepted the offer of a state funeral in Melbourne in her honour.

Premier Daniel Andrews confirmed the funeral would go ahead on Thursday, revealing: “This will be much more of a concert than a funeral, I think it will be a celebration of such a rich and generous life.

“Olivia Newton-John was a very special person and to take her cancer journey and to turn that into more research, better treatment, better care and this focus on wellness, is such an amazing legacy and that’s why I think we all feel the pain of her passing.”

Though she was born in the UK, Olivia has long been regarded as one of Australia’s sweethearts and greatest musical exports.

After finding fame for her singing and acting talents in films like Xanadu and Grease, Olivia faced a difficult personal battle with cancer.

First diagnosed with breast cancer in 1992, the star went into remission before the disease reappeared in 2013.

Olivia never stopped fighting, even when her cancer returned for a third time in 2017 and eventually claimed her life in 2022.

She made cancer research and support a major priority in her life, establishing the Olivia Newton-John Cancer Wellness & Research Centre in Victoria to support fellow cancer patients.

Her husband John Easterling announced Olivia’s death on August 8, later sharing a touching tribute to “the most courageous woman I’ve ever known” on Instagram.

“Olivia, Our love for each other transcends our understanding,” he began.
