Nicole Kidman has landed a BAFTA nomination for Best Supporting Actress in Lion.
Nicole will go head-to-head with the likes of Hayley Squires (I, Daniel Blake), Michelle Williams (Manchester by the Sea), Naomie Harris (Moonlight) and Viola Davis (Fences*).
The 49-year-old’s Lion co-star, Dev Patel, has also received a BAFTA nomination for Best Supporting Actor.
Upon hearing the news, Dev took a moment to thank his co-star and the cast and crew of the film.
“Thank you so much to the BAFTA’s for your support. Ever since I was a kid growing up outside of London, I’ve watched the BAFTA awards with my family. It was a tradition of ours and served as an inspiration to me as I decided to embark on my journey as an actor.”
“I’m thrilled for Nicole Kidman, Luke Davies, Greig and the composers for their respective nominations,” the 26-year-old said.
Oscar buzz has been circling Nicole for some time now and this latest nomination will only help the star’s case!
On Sunday, the mother-of-four lost out at the Golden Globes for the Best Supporting Actress gong to Viola Davis.
Meanwhile, La La Land continues to dominate the landscape picking up an impressive 11 BAFTA nominations with both Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone up for lead actor and actress.
BAFTA nominees Dev Patel and Nicole Kidman were all smiles as they attended a screening of their film in LA on January 9.
This marks Nic’s third BAFTA nomination, having been previously nominated in 1996 and 2002.
In 2003, the actress walked away with a shiny BAFTA for Best Actress in a Leading Role for her performance in The Hours.
Nicole has previously admitted that Lion holds a special place in her heart and is a love letter to her two children, Isabella, 23, and Connor, 21, who she adopted with ex-husband Tom Cruise.

Dev and Nicole have become firm friends after working together.
“The movie is a love letter to my children who are adopted and it’s not about anything other than, ‘I wanted you whatever your journey is, I’m here to love and support you.’ That’s what I connected to. I wanted to make the film for them,” she explained to the UK’s Telegraph.
Lion is a moving drama which follows the true story of a young boy adopted by an Australian couple on his search for his birth parents some twenty five years later.
The British Academy Film Awards, which are the British equivalent of the Oscars, will be held on Sunday, February 12 at the Royal Albert Hall and hosted by Stephen Fry.
