Hollywood is reeling from the announcement of another major split. Aussie-raised Naomi Watts and her actor partner Liev Schreiber have announced they are separating.
Naomi, 47, and Liev, 48, have confirmed in a joint statement that they have decided to split up after 11 years and two children together.
They wrote: “Over the past few months we've come to the conclusion that the best way forward for us as a family is to separate as a couple. It is with great love, respect, and friendship in our hearts that we look forward to raising our children together and exploring this new phase of our relationship.
“While we appreciate your curiosity and support, we ask the press to be mindful of our children and respect their right to privacy.”
The couple, who have been together since 2005 but never married, have two sons, Alexander "Sasha", 9, and Samuel Kai, 7.
Naomi admitted earlier this year that it it’s not always easy. “Relationships are hard whether you're famous or not,' she told Los Angeles Confidential.” “I don't know anyone who doesn't have to work on it. Being an actor doesn't change anything.
“I'm sure it's the same if you're a doctor or a couple of lawyers. You have high-pressure jobs, lots of hours, stresses that come unexpectedly - and you have to figure out how to be present in the midst of it all.”
The split has surprised everyone, particularly after they were pictured on the red carpet earlier this month hand-in-hand at the Toronto International Film Festival.
