Just when we thought our tiny little hearts couldn’t take anymore drama from Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth’s marriage implosion, the US popstar went and dropped her new music video – and it has torn us to shreds.
Slide Away is Miley’s break-up ballad which not-so-subtly alludes to her recent split.
Lyrics such as “So won’t you slide away/ Back to the ocean, I’ll go back to the city lights” and “Move on we’re not 17” appear to reference the former couple’s specific circumstances (Liam’s home in Australia and the pair meeting on the set of The Last Song as teenagers).
Hinting that the dynamic had shifted and she’d outgrown the relationship, Miley further sang: “You say that everything changed / You’re right, we’re grown now.”

Miley alludes to her break-up with Liam in Slide Away.
(Image: YouTube)But it’s a cryptic inclusion in Miley’s new Slide Away music clip that is particularly poignant and heartbreaking.
First spotted by Cosmopolitan, a 10 of hearts playing card can be seen at the bottom of a pool as Miley floats sadly in the water.
According to the publication, the card is a reference to Miley and Liam’s 10-year relationship “drowning” AKA, coming to an end.

Miley is dating Kaitylnn Carter after a 10-year on-again off-again romance with Liam.

While performing at MTV Video Music Awards last month, she sported a very telling new tattoo.
The tattoo features a lyric from the 1990 Pixies song The Thing and reads: “My head was feeling scared, but my heart was feeling free.”

Miley and Liam officially confirmed they had called time on their relationship in early August.
“Liam and Miley have agreed to separate at this time,” Miley Cyrus’ rep told US media outlet PEOPLE in a statement.
“Ever-evolving, changing as partners and individuals, they have decided this is what’s best while they both focus on themselves and careers,” the statement continued.
“They still remain dedicated parents to all of their animals they share while lovingly taking this time apart. Please respect their process and privacy.”
Miley has since moved on with Brody Jenner’s ex wife Kaitlynn Carter while Liam has been spending time with his famous brother Chris Hemsworth in Byron Bay.
